Fastpitch Chronicle

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

We are pleased to share the revamped Fastpitch Chronicle with you, courtesy of publisher/editor Bob Tomlinson, who credits his daughter for the web handiwork on the revised front page. As most of our readers know, Bob was the publisher of the “Fastpitch Chronicle” newspaper in the 1980’s, and inspiration for fastpitchwest. Though the chronicle is no longer published in newsprint, readers can find the new and improved online version here.

Thomson Area Merchants, IL Website

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Click here to view the Thomson Area Merchants, Thomson Illinois team website. The site includes a few photos from last year’s ISC II Tournament of Champions, including this beautiful blue sky shot of the Merchants playing at Budd Park.

The team played in its first ISC II Tournament of Champions last year, and are headed to the ISC World Tournament this year as the # 25 ranked team. In last year’s ISC II Tournament of Champions, pitcher Jonas Mach from the Czech Republic broke the tournament strikeout record, only to be eclipsed later in the tournament by Micksburg’s Cory Costello, after the Merchants were eliminated from the tournament. Costello will be back at the ISC II tournament this year with the # 1 ranked Niagara Snappers.

The Thomson Area Merchants had their best tournament of the year at the AFSA Classic in Illinois recently, where they knocked off # 8 ranked Circle Tap. (more…)

Jarvis Merchants Team Website

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

From:

The Jarvis Merchants have rolled out their new team website.

Editor’s notes: Jarvis is located in Ontario, Canada, with the Merchants currently ranked #15 in the June 21, 2007 ISC World rankings. That puts them just behind current #13 Portland and #14 Albaugh IA, and just ahead of #16 Quad City Sox and #17 Pueblo Bandits, CO.

The Merchants recently competed in the Monkton World Fastball Invitational, as the only non-top 10 team in the field and competed very well. The Merchants pitching staff is the talented trio of Brian Urquhart, Scott Wagar and Andrew Phibbs. Phibbs’ brother Allan is the catcher for the team. Top hitters for the Merchants thus far in the season are Pat Graham (.384) and Chris Staats (.378). Both have on-base percentages above .400. Brad Robinson leads the team in home runs with 6, while Pat Graham and Billy Simmons lead in hits. Graham and Robinson also leads in RBI.

We had a chance to see Scott Waggar pitch at the AAU International tournament in 2007, where he pitched very well, coming within one out of knocking off the ISC # 4 ranked Kitchener Hallman Twins. Ironically, in that game, it was Rino Dambrosio who got the game winner for the Twins. Dambrosio is a member of the Merchants regular 2007 roster, but was playing at the AAU with his old club, the Hallman Twins.

Be sure to visit their stats page, which includes box scores from all 27 games played to date, as well as individual player stats.

Al’s Fastball

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Many of our readers are familiar with Al’s Fastball, which we affectionately refer to as “The Holy Grail” of Men’s Fastball.

Al’s Fastball is operated by Al Doran, in Ontario, Canada. (Al also doubles as the ISC Fastpitch webmaster).

The website provides a wealth of information on men’s fastball all over the world, and his emails go out daily to more than 1,500 fastball fans every day — including me. From time to time, we are asked for information on how to sign up for his mailing list, so we’re posting this link:

Click here for information on how to get onto the email mailing list for Al’s Fastball.

Mailing list subscribers can submit emails for posting to Al’s, but be sure to read the guidelines posted on the page linked above.

At the AAU tournament recently, a friend of mine was chatting with Al Doran and I. My friend told Al that his site was the first place he goes for fastball news every morning, then looked at me, as if he had hurt my feelings. I told him “don’t worry – it’s the first place I go too” 🙂 Al’s Fastball is a good part of the inspiration for Fastpitchwest – to help provide some news on what is happening “out West”. We heartily recommend Al’s Fastball – the website, and the mailing list to all of our readers.

For the convenience of our readers (and the editor), Fastpitchwest provides two easy links to get to Al’s Fastball:

1. Main Menu – the first menu button on our front page will take you directly to Al’s Fastball, the website.

2. Quick Link Bar – you’ll find a “Quick Link” to Al’s Fastball Archive on the far right hand side of that little grey bar at the bottom of nearly every page at Fastpitchwest. (except this blog) We are proud to host the back-up archive for copies of the emails that Al sends out, in chronological order.
