Live Broadcast Tonight from Monkton

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Update: 4:45pm PST/7:45pm EST – No luck getting the game here — yet. It’s listed on the radio station’s website as starting at 7:15pm EST, but the feed is country music at the moment. Will keep an eye on it, but I’m in the same boat as you.

Update 2: 5:00 pm PST No luck reaching anyone at the station via phone or email. The game is listed on their website. I give up. Let me know if you have any luck? jim (at) fastpitchwest.com

Update 3: 6:20pm PST – Just got word from the radio station that they had a technical glitch with the streaming audio, and that is why the music was playing instead. Hope to have resolved for the championship game which is scheduled to be broadcast. Keep an eye out for more info.

The opening night match-up between the Kitchener Hallman Twins and Saskatoon will be broadcast live on www.am920.ca. First pitch slated for 7:35pm Eastern time, 4:30pm for those of us on the West Coast. Adjust for your own time zone. Don’t miss this one !

Google Maps Gets Even Better

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

By now, most of you are familiar with Google Maps, and know it is the favorite here at Fastpitchwest. It’s a great tool to find your way to a tournament, or just get a bird’s eye view of the place.

But Google Maps just got even better. You can now change the route (e.g. freeway) that Google gives you for driving directions. You know how sometimes you know taking a freeway is a better route to the tournament, but it doesn’t come up in Google maps (or any other)? Well, just grab the blue route line and put it on the road you want to take and it will recalculate those driving directions for you.

Don’t like the driving route Google Maps doled out to you? Now you can change the driving directions by grabbing the blue route line and dragging it to create a new destination point, which will in turn create a new route.

Click here and try it out.

Vancouver Grey Sox at the Rose Cup

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

[Vancouver, BC] – The Vancouver Grey Sox went 3-2 in Portland on the weekend, finishing tied
for 3rd with SoCal Bombers. In both losses the games were in doubt until the final inning. In the preliminary round Nick Underhill and Jeremy Manley of the Broken Bow Gremlins battled to a scoreless tie through 6 but the Gremlins scored an unearned a run in the 7th and won 1-0. Manley was dominant, throwing a no-hitter, while Underhill gave up only two two hits. In a 2-1 playoff loss to Portland the game was 1-1 after 7 and with the International Tie-breaker rule in effect the Grey Sox failed to score in the top of the 8th then Todd Garcia singled home the winning run off Rick Smith with 1 out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th.
