Fred Hanker Tabbed as Commissioner for New So Cal League

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

From the Fastpitchwest Forum, California section:

I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Fred Hanker and I was appointed the commissioner of the new 2007 NAFA So Cal B-C League. If you are a manager and were unable to attend the meeting please leave me a message with your email address and I will contact you. I hope to have all the managers emails and communicate with you in that way. If you were present and I did not get your email address please leave it with me also.

It is with great anticipation and I look forward to a new start with this league. I will need all the managers help in order to make this work. This is a huge undertaking and I will do my best to represent everyone. In the next week or so I will be working on a league constitution to be given to each manager at the next meeting in January. I will try to set a date in the next few weeks. I also plan on making a web site for the league that will be up and running in a few weeks.

As most of you know I have my own team that I run so all of your help will be necessary in order for this to work. There is still many things that need to be decided in the upcoming months and I welcome any ideas and suggestions. I hope to hear from all managers with your contact information as soon as possible. Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to represent Southern California.

Ike Pursell to Head up Central Cal Travel League

Friday, December 1st, 2006

From Ike Pursell of the Central California ASA:

Gentlemen,
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ike Pursell and I was the Fresno Metro ASA Commissioner from 1973 to 1984. I have been the President of the Fresno Senior Softball league from 1999 to 2003. I have plenty of experience in running leagues and organizations. Many of you might remember the old travel league were we actually played home & home doubleheaders between teams from Chowchilla to Bakersfield and from San Louis Obispo and Atascadero.

Things have really change this past year what with no qualifiers for National tournaments and the fact that anyone wishing to go can do so. This means that it is important for each team to get the best possible competition during the season to prepare themselves for the Nationals. I have accepted the position as CCASA Travel League director.

We are opening the league up to a maximum of 14 teams, running two divisions with 23 games guaranteed. The top two teams will have their entry fee paid to the National and the winning team will receive a $50 per team travel money. The league is opened to the Central California teams first and then to first come first serve from out of our metro.

Ike Pursell
Travel League Director

Bridgeport ON Defends SPMFL Title

Monday, September 18th, 2006

From our ISC II blog, “The Deuce”:

The Bridgeport Braves, the South Perth Men’s Fastball League (SPMFL) regular season champs and the defending league champs, successfully defended their championship – but they did it the hard way Sunday, winning five consecutive games up the loser’s side of the 16-team bracket in the playoff tournament in Mitchell Sept. 15-17. They defeated the previously unbeaten Elmira Cubs twice in the final, 4-3 and then in the sudden-death final 3-1. (Click link above for more details)

Editor’s notes: Bridgeport was the host team at the 2006 ISC II Tournament of Champions in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, and a gracious host at that to the first ever California team to compete in the tournament, the California Lumberkings. The Elmira Cubs, who finished second to Bridgeport in this one, was the winner of the 2005 ISC II Tournament of Champions. Not a bad league, eh? No wonder the South Perth league is considered one of the best on the continent.

First Annual PROforma ALL-STAR Challenge Cup

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

Blair Setford to Broadcast Live at 9pm Thursday Night

Kitchener, Ontario – August 4, 2006 – The Golden Horseshoe Fastball League and the South Perth Men’s Fastball League are pleased to announce the creation of a brand new event taking place at the site of the 2006 ISC World Fastball Tournament.

The PROforma ALL-STAR Challenge Cup, sponsored by local promotional products distributor PROforma Promotions, will be held on Thursday, August 10th at 9:00 PM at the Peter Hallman Ball Yard in Kitchener. The event will pair all-star teams from the GHFL & SPMFL in a tournament kick-off challenge match.

“I am very excited to sponsor this new event,” states Ken Doucet, owner of PROforma Promotions, the official merchandise supplier of the 2006 Schneiders ISC World Men’s Fastball Tournament. PROforma also supplied the merchandise for the 2002 Schneiders ISC World Men’s Fastball Tournament.

“We’re doing everything we can to try to re-fire interest in men’s fastball in Ontario and events like the PROforma All-Star Challenge are a great way to build some friendly rivalries between leagues,” said GHFL President Blair Setford. “South Perth is widely recognized as one of the top leagues around, but we think that we’re going to surprise a lot of people with how good the GHFL team will be.”

“South Perth teams have won the past three ISC II Championships and we’ve got a lot of great players, but we’re looking forward to the challenge,” said South Perth president George Nahrgang.

“We’re thrilled that PROforma has stepped up to be the title sponsor and I expect that competition for the PROforma All-Star Cup is going to be fierce every year,” said Setford.
