Budke Hits, Pitches Black Sox to #1 Seed at Lancaster

Long Beach Black Sox Top Seed at Lancaster, CA

Todd Budke is a world class player and today he proved he can also pitch when needed as he threw a complete game (6IP) and allowed only 2 earned runs in the Sox 9-4 win over The Amigos giving Long Beach the # 1 seed on Sunday. Budke allowed only 7 hits and 1 walk in the win. At the plate Todd was 1-2 with 2 walks and an RBI. Budke was pressed into duty when Randy Clay could not pitch due to his arm injury suffered earlier in the day. The Sox also brought out the bats again. Leadoff man Paul Rosebush continued his torid hitting going 3-4 with 2 runs. Andy Martinez followed suit going 4-4 with 2 runs. Fred Hanker was 2-4 with a run and RBI. Chris Minogue also stayed hot with a 3 run home run to brek the game open. Brett Semans was 3-3 with a run and a RBI. The Sox hit Amigo ace Anthony Martinez for 14 hits and 9 runs. The Sox now are guranteed at least third place and play at 11:30 versus the winner of 4 and 5.

After two rainouts for the Santa Fe Springs tournaments, no rain is schedule this weekend so we will be playing. There are seven teams in each classification with the round robin games starting Saturday morning at 9:00 AM. Single elimination action will start 8:00 AM on Sunday.

Vancouver Grey Sox Top Prince George

Vancouver, B.C. –

The Vancouver Grey Sox defeated Prince George Black Bears in 4 entertaining ball games before good crowds at South Memorial Park on the May 13-14 weekend. The fans were treated to some great offence against top level pitching, and the weather was spectacular – sunny and well over 70 degrees . Final scores were 5-0 and 3-2 for the Grey Sox on Saturday, 12-6 and 6-2 on Sunday. (more…)

Vancouver Results – May 6

The Vancouver Grey Sox played Squamish Wizards on Saturday afternoon in Squamish (located midway between Vancouver and the Whistler ski resort). The Grey Sox won the first game 9-2. Rick Smith went the distance in picking up the win. Jimmy Peers suffered the loss, with Travis Moyle in relief. 1B Brian Mayson hit a 3 run homer in the 4th to spark the Grey Sox offence. SS Kevin Schellenberg also homered for the Sox.

The 2nd game was played on a split squad basis with the “Grey Sox” winning the spirited contest, but given that the rosters were combined the game will not be recorded as an official win for Vancouver.

The Grey Sox host the Prince George Black Bears in doubleheaders at South Memorial Park in Vancouver May 13-14. Games on Saturday are set for 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., and on Sunday for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Santa Rosa Tops Norcal League Tournament at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD CA — The new look Santa Rosa Fastpitch team (formerly the Santa Rosa Storm) rallied from early deficits in three consecutive games here Sunday to win the Class C Fairfield Tournament behind the pitching of workhorse Jeff Want. Santa Rosa, which went 2-1 on Saturday to finish second in its bracket behind Country Club Villa in the round-robin portion of the tourhament, opened Sunday’s play by overcoming a 6-3 deficit to defeat Dry Creek (also of Santa Rosa) 10-7, with Want getting the win after pitching the final four innings and allowing only thee hits and one run.

Rude Pac & Goodfellas Crowned Champions at Palm Springs II

In a re-match of last month’s Championship, Rude-Pac faced the Panteras and with the strength of their whole team, came out on top for the Championship. Rude-Pac went a perfect 6 -0 facing the always tough Primetime Fast Pitch twice, once in the round robin and again in the Sunday elimination to get to the Championship game. The Panteras went 4-2 with wins over the So Cal Masters and Savala Rounders on Sunday.

Goodfellas of Lancaster won the C Classification tournament and their first Alliance tournament. Goodfellas, who played last year as ReMax, won only one game on Saturday and were third in their pool. In their first game on Sunday they had to face Palm Springs Express and then Latin Heat to get into the Championship game. In the Championship, they faced the Young Bucks. The Young Bucks earned their way into the Championship with a 3 – 0 record on Saturday and wins over the So Cal Hustlers and Gamecocks.

Long Beach Black Sox Finish 2-2 at Palm Springs II

“Russ Snow held off a late Sox rally to beat the Sox 8-5 and eliminate Long Beach from the Palm Springs 2 tournament. The Sox finished up 2-2 and are now 5-5 in the A/B Alliance for the season. Snow went the distance striking out 6 in the victory. Chris Martinez batting in the leadoff spot for the 1st time all season was 1-2 with a walk and a run. Chris Minogue was 2-3 with his third triple of the tourney and 2 RBI. Fred Hanker was 1-3 with a 2 run triple sparking a late Sox rally. Andy Martinez was 2-3 with 2 runs including a booming double to right center. The Sox top 4 hitters of Chris Martinez and Andy Martinez, Fred Hanker and Chris Minogue were 6-11 with a double and 2 triples and 4 RBI with 5 runs scored. The Sox now are off for a few weeks when they travel to Lancaster. Sox manager was pleased with the effort. ” We were not at full strength and a few of the guys we had were sick.” “I appreciate the effort by everyone.”

Northern Cal ASA “C” Teams This Weekend in Fairfield, CA

Thanks to Herb Dower for information on the Northern California “C” League, which gets underway this weekend, April 22-23, 206.

Class C teams will be starting play also this weekend in Fairfield, CA. Opening round games will be played Saturday, April 22, with the single-elimination portion on Sunday. Eight teams will be competing.

In one bracket are:

Team 707 (Vallejo)
Fat City (Nevada)
Country Club Villa (San Jose)
Santa Rosa Fastpitch (Santa Rosa, formerly Santa Rosa Storm).

Games will be played at Lee Bell Park in Fairfield starting at 9 a.m.

In the other bracket are

Wally’s World (Santa Rosa)
Dry Creek (Santa Rosa)
Elk Grove
Blood Line (Nevada)

Games will be played at Laurel Creek Ballpark in Fairfield.

The Santa Rosa City League is also about ready to begin play.

In the Wednesday Night League are:

Norcal Pacific Coast Tournament Series (April 22-23)

After two rainouts, the Northern California Pacific Coast Tournament Series hopes to get their 2006 season underway this weekend in Stockton, California.
