Two-time defending ASA Major champion the Farm was eliminated by Florida Fastpitch, 5-4 in ten innings. Florida now advances to the loser’s bracket final against the Riversharks, with the winner of that game playing the Tampa Bay Smokers for the title.

The Farm finishes in 4th place, Team Iowa 5th, and Keating Fitness 6th.

Tampa Bay Smokers advance to ASA Major final

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

From the pen of longtime Smoker’s writer, Matt Birmingham, courtesy of Al’s Fastball: Smokers advance to ASA final

“Tampa Bay put the game away in the opening inning as 1B Trent Rubley doubled home 2B Chris Miljavic, and LF Barry Kahler mashed his second home run of the tournament; a three run shot that brought home 3B Frankie Perez, who doubled, and DP Boomer Brush who walked.

The Smokers added three more runs in the third as Brush blasted a three run homer of his own that brought in Rubley and Perez. Brushes left center field homer not only cleared the 250 temp fence, but would have easily cleared the permanent 290 foot fence, had it not been for the scrub oak trees.”

At press time, the Farm and Florida Fastpitch were tied at 4 in the 9th inning of their game.

The championship game is slated for 7pm EST tonight (4pm west coast time), and the “if” game at 9pm EST (6pm PST)
