Legends of Fastball Classic 2010

The 7th Annual Legends of Fastball Classic will move to a new date in 2010 and tournament organizers are hoping to expand with a new junior division as well. Legends has traditionally been held the weekend after Memorial Day but declining major level teams and late start up of remaining teams has made it difficult to fill the schedule the last couple years. After much consideration the Legends weekend will move to June 25, 26 and 27, 2010 with the hope that conflicts in previous years can now be avoided. Peter Hallman Ball Yard in Kitchener will again be the host venue for this event.

The format will remain the same with 10 teams in two 5 team divisions. Each team will play a 4 game round robin schedule in their owndivision with the top 3 in each division advancing to the single eliminationplayoff round. The top team in each division will be given a buy in the preliminary playoff round.

With so many strong midget and junior aged teams throughout Ontario, organizers arehoping to attract 8 teams to compete in a similar format in the juniordivision. Details have not been nailed down yet in this regard but should becoming forth by the end of the year.

Entry fee for the men’s division will be $500 payable to Kitchener Fastball Promotions, c/o Larry Lynch, 206 Moore Avenue, Kitchener Ontario N2H 3S9

Any and all interested teams can contact Larry by e-mail at llynch9 (at) rogers.com or telephone , evenings at 519 579 2903.

Legends has been a designated ISC World Tournament qualifyingtournament in resent years. With another World Tournament scheduled in Kitchener in 2011 itmakes great sense to get a feel for the action before the main event.

Teams arrive in town for regional tourney

By KELSIE JOHNSON ~ NG Sports Reporter ~ kelsie@nasguard.com:

The Eastern Caribbean Association Softball Tournament (ECAST) will be the first international test of the year for The Bahamas’ men’s and women’s national softball teams.

The friendly tournament, which is sanctioned by the International Softball Federation (ISF), will put Team Bahamas up against Jamaica, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Bermuda. The Bahamas Softball Federation (BSF) is hosting the tournament, which got underway yesterday at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. Up until press time, Jamaica was the only team that did not arrive in town as yet, according to BSF President Burkette Dorsette. The Jamaicans are expected to arrive in the capital today.

Dorsette said: “Even though we do not know the caliber of play from the teams coming in, we anticipate a good tournament. We haven’t seen Jamaica play in years so we definitely don’t know what to expect from them. Jamaica, they’ve been out of the international loop for some time now. I know Turks and Caicos, they’ve been traveling to and from Grand Bahama for competition over the last couple of years, so we kind of know how they play. The other teams we’ve seen them before and know that the competition is going to be keen.”

More than 16 games will be played between now and Sunday. The men will play five games in a round-robin format, and the women will play in a triple round-robin. The ECAST is being used by the BSF as a measuring stick for both teams, especially since this is the first time the national team members will be playing together for the year. Both teams were revamped by the BSF and now both teams have a mixture of young and veteran players.

Dorsette revealed that next year will be a busy one for both teams so the BSF is hoping to get the squads in the mindframe of playing at a high level, as quickly as possible.

“We need our players to get in the frame of mind to play softball against other countries,” Dorsette explained. “We can’t just be here sitting down working out and playing against ourselves. We have to invite teams and play against other teams so we can improve. Next year is a busy year for softball. Colombia just came forth in the last four or five weeks, while we were are at the congress… They confirmed the participation for some 18 or 19 countries for the tournament, which is a qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC). There are quite a bit of tournaments next year. Some of these tournaments are friendships and some are qualifiers. We are taking a look at some of them, wanting to improve our play.”

When the ECAST concludes on Sunday, the BSF will have less than three days to prepare for the BSF National Round-Robin Tournament, slated for November 5-8. Teams are expected in from New Providence, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera, Andros, Abaco, Long Island, Exuma and Bimini. Play will be held at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

Boys of Summer – July 9 – 11, 2010

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

October 27, 2009
Denmark, WI USA

Hello all,
The Boys of Summer Tournament has always invited back the teams from the previous year to compete in this prestigious event. We again invite all 2009 participants back and you will be given priority over any new
entries. With the depletion of the field of teams at the ISC level over the last couple of seasons, I suspect there will be some holes to fill.

At this point, it is undetermined how many teams will be accepted, so if you are interested, please respond with your intent at your convenience. For any team or fan that has been to this event, it would be hard to argue that it is the strongest regular season tournament each summer. Our intent is to keep it that way.

Thanks for all your interest.

July 9 – 11
Boys of Summer – Denmark and Circle Tap, WI
Amount of Teams based on interest
Format: Round Robin into single elimination
Entry fee: TBD

Argentina will host the ISF Junior Men’s World Championship 2012

The city of Paraná will host the next ISF Junior Men’s World Championship 2012. This was confirmed this afternoon the International Softball Federation at the World Congress is developing on Margarita Island, Venezuela. In this way, Argentina will host the World Softball Championship for the first time in its history, and it will bring to South America for the first time an event of this nature.

The official presentation of the candidates was held yesterday morning, opposite the World Championships Committee. First was New Zealand which suggested the city of Nelson to host the World Cup, in second place was Canada, who presented the candidacy of Whitehorse, and finally it was the turn of the delegation of Argentina, who presented to the city of Parana and candidate to host 2012. The end of the submission of Argentina, who was in charge of Argentina President of Softball Confederation, Mr. Jacinto Cyprian, and who had a previous hard work of members of the CAS and Paranaense Softball Association, concluded with a closed applause, the only candidate to receive such treatment from those present.

This spells good news for today, when they finally decide the World Junior Men’s headquarters. And indeed, this afternoon the full ISF World Congress confirmed the news of Paraná will host the World Youth Championship 2012. After the election, which was defined unanimously in favor of capital entrerriana, it came time for the congratulations, acknowledgments and joy of the delegation of Argentina, who received on behalf of all delegates present countless expressions of support and recognition .

A total of fifteen countries will come to Argentina in 2012, and join our Team to contest the World Junior Championships. Softball lovers in Argentina will have the chance to see play on the diamonds of Paraná the future stars of New Zealand, Australia, Japan, USA, Canada, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Slovenia, South Africa, among others, as is perhaps the best softball tournament ever in our country.

Thus is fulfilled the dream of having for the first time in history a World Softball Championship in Argentina diamonds. There is still a long road ahead of work and effort to show the world that softball of Argentina is capable of doing great things. However, the first step, the most difficult, is given. Argentina is officially host the ISF Junior Men’s World Championship 2012. The world will come to play softball in our country, and Parana will welcome you with open arms.
