Nick Underhill Signs on for Another Year with Vancouver

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Vancouver, BC

The Vancouver Grey Sox are pleased to officially announce that pitcher Nick Underhill has re-signed with the team for the 2007 season.

Underhill a resident of Campbell River, BC, will be completing his 5th season with the team at the upcoming Softball Canada National Championship in Prince George. A member of Canada’s National Team at the most recently held ISF World Championship and Pan American Games, he was selected again this past week to represent the country at the Pan Am Qualifier event being staged this upcoming September in Mexico. Nick is a proven top quality Senior Men’s pitcher, and his fine efforts on the field have assisted the Grey Sox organization in providing a top level senior mens fastpitch program.

We are extremely excited to have Nick back in the fold for another season, and coupled with the annoucement in the spring of this year that we had extended our agreement with Rick Smith through the 07 season, we feel the team is very well positioned in the pitching circle for next season.

Maddy’s Photos of Team Rainey at ISC

Friday, August 25th, 2006

We didn’t get to see much of the ISC tournament, but did catch Rainey’s first game on Saturday, an upset win over the higher ranked Kegel Black Knights of Fargo, North Dakota. Team Rainey came into the tournament ranked #24, while Kegel was #13. (Rainey also beat Kegel in July at Boys of Summer). Click here to view the photos from the game against Kegel.

Team Rainey went on to knock off the #4 team in the tournament in their second game, the host Hallman Twins of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, before dropping a close game to #5 Patsy’s of New York, which finished 2nd overall in this year’s tournament. Rainey was later eliminated on a controversial call by the plate umpire in their game against Heflin of New York.

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

We’ve added two more games to the ISC II Broadcast Archives at Ballparkradio, Semi-final games 91 and 92, between Rise Fastpitch/Tavistock and Micksburg/Palermo, respectively.

There is a bit of pre-game on Game 91 as we were making sure that our broadcasts were going out from the new location at Peter Hallman Field number 2, but you can skip over it and jump to the action.

Click here for the ISC II archive page at Ballparkradio.com, then click “Game 91 or 92” to listen. Remember the files are large so be patient as they load into your computer. You will notice that after the first time loading, the files load much quicker.

Complete overhaul for national men’s fastball finalists

by JASON PETERS, Citizen staff

The team name is the same. But, this edition of Newfoundland Impact Signs does not bear much resemblance to the one that went all the way to the final at the 2005 Canadian senior men’s fastpitch championship.

Last year in St. Thomas, Ont., Impact Signs lost 7-1 to the host team in the title game. When Newfoundland begins play Sunday in Prince George at the 2006 nationals, it will have just five returning players on its roster.

Given that fact, the expectations for Impact Signs are a little different this time around.
