So Cal Bombers lose Ormsby

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

YUCAIPA, CA – The So Cal Bombers would like to announce and clarify that they have lost the services of Glen Ormsby for the 2007 season. After coming to a very positive agreement on terms, and carefully ensuring Ormsby’s permission to post the signing, he has since decided to sign with another team and notified the Bombers that he will not suit up for us after all. There were no outstanding issues regarding the agreement and were told it was simply a ‘reverse of decision’. The Bomber’s are disappointed with the news but determined to continue forward with solidifying our roster. We hope things work out for Spike with his chosen direction and thank him for his contributions in 2006.

Scrappy signs with So Cal Bombers

Friday, October 20th, 2006

YUCAIPA, CA – So Cal Bombers sign Greg Crawford

The So Cal Bombers have added another piece of the 2007 roster and are pleased to announce that they have signed Greg Crawford for the season.

Crawford, known as “Scrappy” to most was a member of the Aspen Black Sox out of Saskatoon in 2006 before a serious leg injury sidelined him for the season.

Head Coach Kelly McGiffin is looking forward to adding Crawford to the lineup and sees his addition as a valuable component to the attack.

“Scrappy has played at this level for several years and is an experienced and lethal left handed hitter that really adds a new dimension to our attack. I know his injury was serious but he is a fitness guru himself and if anyone can make a full and effective return, it will be Greg. And what’s really important is the fact that he is another great character guy, beyond his obvious softball talent. He’ll fit in well, work hard to contribute and put the team first at all times. I’m very happy with his addition.”

The Bomber management, staff and players welcome Scrappy the organization and look forward to his work with the team and contributions toward their goals.

So Cal Bombers re-sign Glen Ormsby

Friday, October 20th, 2006

(10/23/06- See Update: Bombers lose Ormsby)

YUCAIPA, CA – The So Cal Bombers are very happy to announce that they have re-signed Glen Ormsby for the 2007 season. Glen was one of the top hitters for the Bombers in 2006, playing 3B and Outfield. His return to the middle of the Bomber order makes their lineup an offensive force again in 2007.

Glen played for both the Bombers (ISC) and the Prince George Black Bears for Canadian Nationals in 2006, leading the Bombers to a top ten finish and the Black Bears to the Gold Medal game finals.

Head Coach Kelly McGiffin said Ormsby’s return is a big piece of the Bomber puzzle for 2007.

“In my opinion, Glen Ormsby was one of the top hitters in the World last year and having him in our 3/4 spot just makes us a better team. I thought Glen should have been part of the Canadian National squad this year, and he continues to be very underrated. We don’t underrate him though, we know he’ll be a big part of our lineup and I expect another strong year for him in 2007. He hits for average and has tape measure power, and is just hitting his prime as a premier hitter. As a non-Prawn, I was quite worried we may lose Glen, as his value is huge but he is a very loyal man and we’re very happy that he’s back with us for 2007.”

Ormsby’s return signing adds to the already impressive signings this off-season and give the Bombers a formidable lineup for 2007.

McGiffin adds: “The coaching staff, The Trejo family and the Bomber players are very happy that Glen is back and we’re all looking forward to a strong 2007 season.”

YUCAIPA, CA – The So Cal Bombers have locked up another central piece of the 2007 roster and are very happy to announce that they have re-signed Tony Peeples for the season. Tony, a California native, is a formative member of the Bombers pitching staff and returns as one of the important strengths for the 2007 squad.

Tony is a longtime member of the US National Team and has been one of the most effective pitchers in the ISC over the last few years. In 2006, he combined with Ryan Brand and Travis Price to lead the Bombers to a very successful season.

Head Coach Kelly McGiffin said Peeples return was critical to the success of the team in 2007.

“Tony Peeples not only brings a quality arm back to the team but a strength of character and competitiveness that winning teams have to have from their leaders. Tony has a rubber arm and can start, long relieve and close with little notice. He is a bulldog and will not give in to hitters, he has a great array of pitches and you know when he’s in the circle, we will always have the chance to win.”

Another step closer to solidifying a very strong team for the upcoming season, the Bomber management and players welcome Tony and his leadership back for 2007.

Age Defying Feat….

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

[SANTA BARBARA] – We hear that the ageless Clyde Bennett has another accomplishment to add to his long resume. At the ripe young age of 68, hours after becoming a great grandfather, he got behind the plate and caught his son, hard throwing 6’7″ son, Mark Bennett for seven innings — without a passed ball or dropped third strikes, no less. (It occurs to us that the latter fact might be explained by the fact that it’s easier to catch the ball than get up out of a crouch to go chase it down 🙂 )

Oh, and congratulations to Clyde’s grandaugher, Beth, who delivered a 7 lb, oz baby boy. Clyde couldn’t have accomplished the feat without her help. Mother….and great grandfather are resting comfortably.

Clyde Bennett, for those of you who may not know him, has been a longtime fastpitch player, coach and organizer. This past summer, his 23-and-under “Young Bucks” claimed a National Championship in ASA competition. Clyde’s son Mark Bennett has been pitching for Portland’s ISC team for the past several years, and was a member of the “South” team that won the “California Challenge” All Star series in Bakersfield last weekend.

And speaking of Clyde’s 23-and-under team, they are hosting a fund raising tournament November 18-19, 2006: (more…)

CT signings

[Denmark, WI]

The Circle Tap Fastpitch team signed two local stars to the 2007 season. Tim Jorgensen who has played with the Budwieser and Miller Lite teams and most recently the CT Lumberjacks will be on board for ’07. He will play a variety of infield positions and will help with a big bat in the middle of the lineup.

CT has also acquired a young local shortstop, Kyle VanAbel. He has played the last few years with The Bar organizations and did travel to the ISC with CT in ’06 and played with The Farm in the ASA in ’05. He brings youth and tremendous potential to the lineup. The Tappers have also recently secured the services of veteran pitcher Paul Algar to complement Collin McKenzie and Matt Bramwell. Pauly of course is well known throughout the fastpitch community and will be a tremendous addition to the team.

So Cal Bombers Sign Evan Potskin

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Third Major Signing in Days Marks Busy Off Season for Bombers

[YUCAIPA, CA] – The So Cal Bombers are pleased to announce the signing of Evan Potskin for the 2007 season. Evan has been one of the premier hitters in the sport for the past several years and comes to the Bombers after a season in Portland.

He has been a member of the 40 man roster of the Canadian National team since 2001, and remains a potent hitter. In 2006, Potskin hit .545 in the ISC WT with Portland, and .360 in the Canadian National Championships.

Head Coach Kelly McGiffin said Potskin provides a key ingredient to the Bomber lineup.

“One of our goals this off season was to add a couple of veteran bats to the middle of our order and Evan certainly qualifies. I’ve worked with Evan in the past and I know what he can provide to a lineup. He is flat out dangerous and that makes the hitters around him better, as teams worry about that danger. This fills one of the spots we were looking for and while I see him primarily in the OF, it helps that he is a good athlete that can play a number of positions if required.”

The Bomber’s ownership and players welcome Evan and look forward to his contribution and leadership with the Bombers.
