ASA “C” Nationals Set to Begin Frday, August 31 at Killeen, Texas

From the Killeen Daily Herald

By Princess McDowell

Killeen will host the 2007 Men’s Fast Pitch ‘C’ National Tournament this week, with the first game scheduled for today at the Killeen Athletic Complex.

The double-elimination tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. immediately after the opening ceremonies. The championship game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Tournament passes are $15 and daily passes are $7 each.

Thirty-one teams are participating in the tournament – 10 from Texas – with the winner earning the title of Amateur Softball Association National Champions. Both teams based in Killeen, Team Killeen and Killeen Fastpitch, have a decent shot at winning the tournament.

Killeen Fastpitch, then Killeen Powerprint, placed second in the state tournament held at the same field in July, while Team Killeen had to play out of the loser’s bracket.

ASA “B” Nationals – Day 1

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Rockers, CA fall to Luna AZ; Romie’s Angels CA Top Innovative Communications, UT

ASA Men’s “B” National Championships in Altamonte Springs (Orlando), Florida.

Luna’s Towing, AZ 7, River City Rockers CA 5

Opening games at 9 am are completed. Numerous miscues by Rockers, fielding, baserunning and other mistakes contribute to loss. Pitching controversys abound, with pitchers being called for illegal pitches and balls for too many warm-ups. Oh, and two home runs by Omar Moraga..

In 2007, Moraga finished second with the USA Softball Men’s National Team at the ISF Men’s World Cup in Prague – batted .345 with three doubles, four home runs and six RBI. He is also on the ISC World’s restricted player (PRAWN) list.

Romie’s Angels, CA 6, Innovative Communications 5

Romies Angels won in extra innings 6-5 with Shawn Ching driving in the winning run, which scored when the runner bowled over the Innovative Communication, Utah catcher. Both Hunhoffs threw, BJ finishing. Chadwick threw for Utah.

Dave Birnie on the 2006 & 2007 ISC and ISC II

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

From

Comments from Dave Birnie, on Kitchener’s two year stint as host of the ISC and ISC II tournament:

[Kitchener / Cambridge, Ontario] -In 2006 I was invited by the ISC II Commissioner, Blair Setford to be an ISC II Game Controller. I accepted his offer and had one of the most enjoyable fastball experiences of my life. I never thought I would ever attend an ISC World Tournament except as a paying spectator. This year, the ISC were in need of a few teams to complete the 32 team field and invited a few ISC II caliber teams to move up in class to play in the ISC World Tournament. When they contacted our team, the Peterborough Murphy Windmillers, we gladly accepted. I can’t thank Blair Setford and Ken Hackmeister enough for the invite and the prestigious honour of playing in the best fastball tournament in the World. I’d also like to thank the Peterborough management team of Wayne Wells, Jeff Murphy and of course the legendary Sylvia “Sparky” Ryan for allowing me to tag along for the ride.

There were several notable performances over the last 2 years …….
