2008 AAU Int’l Quarterfinal Score – CPI, NY vs. Chicago/NY Dominican Republic

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

CPI 3, Chicago/NY Dominican Republic 0

Shaun Winship tossed a shutout win for the Cinderella squad from New York, though unfortunately for CPI, offensive leader Mike Zorzikas left the game with a shoulder injury and is out of action for the rest of the tournament.

CPI advances to the Final Four and will face Mac’s Sprayers of Iowa at 11am. (It’s now 11:10am, and the 9am games are just concluding, so 11am probably means 11:30am starting time)

2008 AAU Int’l Quarterfinal Score – Mac’s Sprayers vs. Florida Fastpitch

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Macs 2, Florida 1

Robbie O’Brien was the winning pitcher for Mac’s in a hard fought 2-1 game against Florida Fastpitch. O’Brien struck out 16 in 7 innings, while Florida starter Sean Whitten struck out 10 in 5 innings before giving way to Terry Luster.

Mac’s scored one run in the first inning, on a walk to leadoff hitter Adam La Londe, followd by a single by Chris Miljavic and RBI double by Jeff Ellsworth. Florida’s Brian Ree hit a one-out triple to the fence in right center, in the first inning, but was stranded when O’Brien struck out the last two outs of the inning.

They scored the eventual winning run in the 5th when LaLonde again walked, and came home to score on Ellsworth’s second hit on the game.

Florida made things interesting in the 7th inning when Jesse Duncan singled and came home to score on a double by Phillip Perry, putting the potential tying run in scoring position. Avon Meacham came on to run for Perry, but was erased for the final out on an obstruction call on a grounder to shortstop Todd Schultz.

The win sends Mac’s to a semi-final match-up with CPI, as the Sprayers bid to become the first team to win back-to-back AAU titles.
