USA 9, Czech Republic 5

The USA Men evened their record at 5-5 at the ISF Junior World Championships, Friday afternoon, with a 9-5 win over the Czech Republic. Pitcher James Hartman from South Dakota went the distance for the win. Nick Cole, of Sacramento, California struck the big blow in the game, a grand-slam home run. Shortstop Tony Viger also homered the game.

The USA men will conclude their tournament on Friday night, at 7:30pm against the host team, Canada, who is 8-2 in the tournament. The USA men cannot qualify for the medal round, as they will finish behind the top four teams, so the game Friday night will conclude their play at the tournament.

After suffering two tough one-run losses earlier in the day, the USA Jr. Men came out victorious in their third game of the day, against Mexico. The USA won the game in extra innings, scoring the walk-off victory in the bottom of the international tie breaker.

USA Jr. Men Drop a Pair of 1-run games on Day 6

The USA Jr. Men ran into some hard luck on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, Day 6 of the ISF Junior Men’s World Championships, dropping two one-run games, 3-2 against New Zealand, in extra innings, and 5-4 against Argentina, dropping their record in the tournament to 3-4. Things won’t get any easier for the club, which has yet to play the top two teams in the tournament, Australia (7-0), and Canada (6-1).

44 11:00am II United States vs. Argentina 4-5

The USA squad has three games remaining, 12 noon, Thursday vs. Australia, 12noon Friday vs. the Czech Republic, and 7:30 Friday vs. Host Canada. All three are slated for broadcast on Ballparkradio.com
