PRESS RELEASE

First – let me take a minute to congratulate Larry Lynch on another fine tournament this past weekend in Kitchener. Larry has once again pulled off a successful event for fans (and players) at his Legends weekend and for all those in attendance including myself, thanks to Larry and crew for another job well done!!

With just a little more than 3 weeks to go to the opening pitch of the World Fastball Invitational, I am very pleased to announce we are putting the finishing touches and logistics together to have Ballpark Radio on site broadcasting nearly ALL games LIVE from Monkton!!!

Our good friend Mr Jim Flanagan www.fastpitchwest.com and his crew will be in attendance to broadcast live around the world all the action from the tournament via www.ballparkradio.com IN ADDITION, I am also excited to announce Maddy Flanagan www.maddysphots.com is also making the trip from California to capture all the action thru her lens for all to enjoy following the tournament.

Having the “best in the business” on hand at our event is just another reason why fans and players around the globe consider Monkton to be finest of it’s kind, and we are extremely grateful to have Jim, Maddy, and crew take part. They both/all bring along years of professionalism and dedication to their craft as you probably know, and we are very happy to have them on board.

Ballparkradio Duo to ESPN Radio

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

A dream come true” is how Ballparkradio’s Kyle Smith described his move to the Bristol, Connecticut based ESPN Radio. Smith and Ballparkradio broadcast partner Jim Flanagan will be teaming up from opposite ends of the country, Smith in Bristol, Flanagan from the Los Angeles area. Discussions with the folks at Disney (the parent company of ESPN) began in January, when the two were in Orlando to broadcast the 2009 AAU International Tournament, but things fell into place a week ago, when the two got the call they were hoping for. The two will host a bi-coastal sports talk show, focusing on smaller, niche sports, along with broadcasting duties that are expected to include women’s softball.

(Photo: Jim Flanagan and Kyle Smith, visiting ESPN in January)

As readers know, Kyle Smith is a graduate of the broadcasting program at Mohawk College in Ontario, Canada, and has been broadcasting men’s fastpitch for Ballparkradio for several years, including the ISC II Tournament of Champions, the AAU International Tournament, as well as a few games at the ISC World Tournament. His work has been well received by fans of Ballparkradio where he quickly became a favorite. Smith has also worked broadcasting minor-league hockey near his home in Ontario, Canada.

Kyle said that his first love in broadcasting remains men’s fastpitch.

“I’ve been around men’s fastpitch my whole life, and I love watching and broadcasting the game. I have appreciated the opportunity to work with Jim, and Blair Setford and all of the guys on the Ballparkradio crew, to hone my skills. I’m going to miss them, but not forget them.”

Flanagan, will take a short sabbatical from his law practice in Los Angeles for orientation and training at the Bristol studios, but will work on the show from the ESPN studios in Burbank, California. It is undetermined whether he will be joining Kyle Smith on the road with week-to-week broadcasting duties.

“I’m hopeful that Kyle and I will be able to incorporate a bit of reporting on men’s fastpitch. It is a lifelong love of mine, and that won’t change.”

NY Gremlin Knight’s Derek Pukash Makes Debut on Ballparkradio

We are pleased to share the archived broadcast of one of the games carried live on Ballparkradio.com from the 2009 AAU Tournament. This one was broadcast on Friday night, January 23, 2009, at 7pm EST between the Pete Quaranta’s Adco Tool Shed team from Staten Island, New York against Hill United of Ontario, Canada.

(be patient, large file, takes time to download, especially first time)

The broadcasters for this one were Kyle Smith, and the newest member of the Ballparkradio crew, Derek Pukash (who was in Orlando as a member of the New York Gremlin Knights team). Judging from the emails we received, Derek’s performance in the booth was well received. (Disregard the scrolling listing of broadcasters on Windows Media player — I was not on the broadcast – it was Derek taking my place that night with Kyle, as I was a little under the weather, and we wanted someone who knew the NY team well, as Derek did. ) Derek has been inked for an encore in Rock Island, Illinois this summer, at the ISC II Tournament of Champions, where he will once again do double duty, as a player and broadcaster.

As you will hear, the broadcast starts a little abruptly — that’s because Kyle was getting us on the air on the fly. We were in the midst of moving our equipment from one diamond to another, after our earlier 5pm broadcast, and they decided to start the game 15 minutes ahead of the 7pm game time — without us. Kyle didn’t miss a beat, and got things rolling in minutes, so you only miss the pre-game and first batter. Hope you enjoy the broadcast.

We extend our thanks to Pete Quaranta and the folks at Adco Tool Shed, who sponsored the broadcast, enabling us to bring it to fastpitch fans live that night. Team cap logo below, for the two sponsor team — Adco, and Tool Shed.

We’ll be posting additional broadcasts from the 2009 AAU International Tournament, with list posted below the jump.

Ballparkradio Broadcasts from the 2009 AAU

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Ballparkradio will be in Orlando for its sixth consecutive year, albeit a bit leaner than last year’s crew, which broadcast a tournament hight ten (10) games, with Kyle Smith, Blair Setford, Joe Todd, Bill Hillhouse and yours truly.

For 2009, Blair and Joe will not be making the trip, so it’s just a 2.5 man crew, of Kyle, myself, and Bill Hillhouse (when he is not pitching and available in the booth), plus distinguished guests (hopefully including Paul “Chico” McCart, among others).

To listen to the broadcasts, just go to the Ballparkradio website, www.ballparkradio.com and click the black “Click to Listen” button, then choose the link for the game you want to hear, turn on your speakers and sit back and enjoy the action. (or turn down the volume/don the headsets for those of you listening at work)

For the third year in a row, we’ll feature Kyle Smith’s interview with ISC Executive Director Ken Hackmeister (who doubles as co-tournament director for the AAU Tournament, along with the AAU’s Alex Linares). The interview has proven to be a popular item for listeners, a sort of a “State of the Game/ISC” chat. We’ll post the time for the interview when it’s set, but most likely on Saturday night.

Broadcasts will begin on Friday, and will be posted here and at the Ballparkradio website when available. Teams wanting to have a game broadcast may sponsor a game, splitting the cost with their opponent. For further information, email Ballparkradio, jim (at) ballparkradio (dot) com for further details. Broadcast slots will be handled on a first come-first served basis.

2008 ISF Junior World Championship Broadcast Available Online

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

(click logo to visit Ballparkradio.com website)

Just in time for Christmas, the archived broadcast of the 2008 ISF Jr. World Championship game has been posted online for listening and download. You may listen to it directly, or save to your computer and play back on any computer. The broadcast is made available free of charge. (We have an MP3 version as well, for those who want it on a CD or to put on their iPod or other media player, but that file is too large to post online. Watch for more information on how to get on CD)

Our production team is working on the rest of the ISF Jr. World Championship games that were broadcast from Whitehorse, as well as the ISC II Tournament of Champions, so stay tuned.

Click here to listen or download the broadcast
, between Australia and Canada, with Kyle Smith and Jim Flanagan. (This file posted online is still a large one, so be patient while it downloads and buffers). Once done, it will load quickly the second time. Depending on which browser you’re using, it might make some funny noises while it downloads, but give it time.)

(Kyle and Jim will be in Orlando, January 22-25, 2009 for live broadcasts of the 2009 AAU International tournament.)
