HERMOSILLO, MEXICO – Jeff Ellsworth of Alberton contributes in a huge way as Team Canada improved their record to 2-1 with a 4-1 defeat of Puerto Rico here Monday morning at the 2006 Pan American Fast Pitch championships.
The win allows Canada to rebound from a 4-3 loss to rival U.S.A. Sunday night in the late game. Canada was to face Venezuela looking to go to 3-1 later Monday at 9 p.m. ADT.
The Canadian side got their scoring in the third inning. With bases loaded, Ellsworth (2-4) drove a Juan Martinez offering up the middle for a single scoring pinch runner Scott Newitt, in place of catcher Sean O’Brien.
Rob Gray’s double to right field brought around Kevin Schellenberg and Ryan Wolfe to plate and left Ellsworth at third. He wasn’t there long when Derek Mayson hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring the Alberton rec director with the fourth and final run for Canada.
“It’s been great,†Ellsworth, who is now 3-for-8, said following the game. “It’s nice to contribute in anyway I can to get the win at the end of the day.â€
He didn’t take the field for the game against the U.S. as coach Mark Smith gave the other players a chance to play.
“It’s a different atmosphere,†he added. “The counties are so intense and into every pitch you always have to be on your toes.â€
Canadian starter Nick Underhill gave up just two hits in five innings work, fanning seven. Frank Cox came on in relief, striking pout four in two innings work.

Pat Healey, who covered the ISF Jr. Men’s tournament from PEI, Canada is getting some information from a player on the Canadian and Argentine team and Softball Canada is posting some as well. We’ll post info as it becomes available. Please note that the schedule posted a few days ago has changed, due to three teams dropping out. The remaining teams will play each other (10 games) over the week long tournament.

Hermosillo, Mexico—The USA Softball Men’s National Team will being their quest to earn a spot in the 2009 ISF Men’s World Championships on Sunday, October 1 at the VII Men’s Pan American Softball Championship in Hermosillo, Mexico. Thirteen teams have confirmed their participation in the championship that runs October 1-8.
The USA, who is the defending gold medalist in this event, is the top seed in Section “A†and will open the tournament against Argentina, who is the No. 3 seed in Section “Aâ€, at 8 p.m. on October 1.
The Red, White and Blue are looking to end the 2006 season the same way they started it back in January – with a gold medal. The U.S. took gold at the A.A.U. National Tournament in Orlando, Fla., and look to repeat as the champions of the Pan American Softball Championships.
Players representing the United States this week include eight members of the USA team that captured the 2006 AAU Men’s Fast Pitch Tournament. It was the first event won by the Men’s National Team since it captured the gold medal at the 2002 Pan American Softball Championships in Guatemala.

It will be in Santa Barbara at the Beach fields on November 18-19. It will have few unique features 1. low cost $250 2. 4 game guarentee 3. Small awards(T shirts) 4. It will be umpired by the Young Bucks so that we can realize a profit. I will train them. It will be open to all level players but please keep the pitching to C level. The Kats Athletic Club and the County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation will host the Annual Bob Rapp Memorial Men’s Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament in February 2007. This is a fast-pitch three (3) games guarantee bracket with tournament champions receiving a berth to the NAFA World Series scheduled for August 2007. This tournament promises to be fun, exciting, and is billed as the largest fast-pitch tournament in the State of Hawaii. Teams from Japan, Western United States, Canada, and Hawaii have been invited to participate.
