Monday, August 29th, 2005Wooden Bat Classic
Monday, August 29th, 2005We would like to announce the Rocky Mountain Wood Bat Classic to held September 24,25 in Laramie,Wyoming. There is a 3 game guarantee with a $200 entry fee. There will be no aluminum bats allowed.
The following teams have committed to play:
1. Kings Salt Lake City,Utah
2. Cedar Ridge Vernal,Utah
3. Farmington Natives Farmington,New Mexico
4. Warriors Fort Collins,Colorado
5. Brown and Gold Laramie,Wyoming
6. Fremont Motors Rawlins,Wyoming
7. Rebels Rock Springs,Wyoming
This is the first event to be sponsored by the Rocky Mountain
Woodbat Association. The Associations title speaks for itself, we will be playing with wooden bats,a Diamond D-100 Ball, and the official strike zone of the armpits to the knees.
If you come to play, you will not see the ridiculous belt down to
somewhere below the knees that some umpires associations have forced down the throat of the mens fastpitch game. All umpires that have agreed to come and enjoy a weekend of fastpitch have agreed to call the game in the manner that we have asked.
The reason for this association is the culmination of a series of
events over the past 3 years that convinced us that the fastpitch
associations have dropped the ball on the safety of their players.
The list of pitchers that have taken serious injuries from balls is
growing every weekend. We have decided that we are not going to stand by until someone dies to make a change.
We are tired of seeing our friends and acquaintances getting hit
in the face with line drives off of “Legal” Bats. I was of the opinion several years ago on the Blue Ribbon panel of the ISC, that we could control the speed of the game with the ball. I Was Wrong…
By controlling the speed of the game with the bat and allowing the
strike zone to be elevated to where it should be…should help bring
more pitchers into the game.
If you are interested in playing in the Wood Bat Classic or in
future tournaments or Travel Leagues in the Rockies,Feel free to give me a call at 303-475-8142. You may also reach Marty Mckinney about the Wood Bat Classic at 307-742-0551

YAKIMA (WA) HERALD-REPUBLIC
The first-half champions turned in a repeat performance to earn the overall adult fastpitch league championship Thursday night.
Les Schwab turned back a late rally from the JRW C Squad, winning 10-9 at Kiwanis Park, clinching the second-half title. Since Les Schwab was also the first-half winners, they clinched the league title.
Mark Seward hit a solo homer and drove in two runs, and Kevin Root added a two-run homer as Les Schwab built a 10-4 lead after five innings.
JRW rallied, including a four-run seventh, but fell short. Jason Scheibner had a two-run homer for JRW.

Milt Michael’s “Photo Story” on ISC Final
Friday, August 26th, 2005Milt Michael, webmaster of “The Inside Curve” website has put together an outstanding “photo story” of the 2005 ISC World Tournament final. Click this link, then the “photo story” link on the right side of that page.
It is a quality piece of work, and definitely worth a look.
Also be sure to read the headline story there, “Kiefel Comes Thru For County”
They might be the best softball team ever assembled but they nearly lost the final game. They had released Darren Zack just before the tourney as they couldn’t use three out of area pitchers.
Kris Keifel (#18), who was destined for extra inning heorics, batted eighth in their order. All nine starters were members of either the Australian, New Zealand or USA national teams. Darryl Sandback of Team Canada was used sparingly, mostly as a pinch hitter in bunting situations.
But the 3,500 fans in Eau Claire Wisconsin nearly saw them lose one of the most thrilling ISC championship games in memory as the Farm Tavern of Madison Wisconsin nearly upset them,
64 Teams at ASA “C” Nationals in Stockton, CA Sept 1-5
Friday, August 26th, 2005Click here for the official tournament website, which has PDF copies of brackets and pre-tournament information.
64 teams in this one, a bit less than some of the 70-96 rumored, but still plenty of teams to fill out that bracket. Over half (35) are from California alone. Pennsylvania is sending 8 teams, with the rest from the remaining states.
Games get underway at 8am Thurday, September 1, with the championship game slated for Monday at 12:00 noon. All teams will play at only one game Thursday, either 8am, 10am, 12noon or 2pm.
Teams that remain in the winner’s bracket would play one game Friday at either 12noon or 2pm, one game Saturday, at either 12noon or 2pm, and two on Sunday, at 12noon and 6pm, with two more Monday, at 8am and the (first) championship game at 12noon.
The last games scheduled for Thursday start at 2:00 p.m. with the first round of loser’s bracket games on Friday morning. (So no one gets sent home the first day 😉 )

Do ISC World Tournament Players Belong at ASA “C” Nationals ?
Wednesday, August 24th, 2005Read what Fastpitch Forum member Sledgehammer22 and others say on the subject. Do you agree or disagree? The ‘hammer says:
“Most open hitters I’ve seen hitting “C” are terrible. Their timing is way off. Where they will help teams are the instances when a pitcher is pitching “C” that shouldn’t be. They will eat the hard throwers up. But they won’t be hitting anyway so no use talking about it. Many of the players are only rated “A” because they havn’t been to any ASA Major events, just ISC. This means that they may drop two levels and hit, but each team can only have 4 upper division players.”
and
When you look at the whole picture, the “C” nationals should be the best tournament of the year next to the ISC
Huh? I thought it was the ISC II, ASA Major, ASA “A” and ASA “B”, and that the “C” Nationals were for entry level teams and old(er) guys like me 🙂 Readers, tell us what you think. Do ISC World Tournament level players belong at the ASA “C” Nationals?
