Softball Magazine Feature Story on AAU International Tournament Available at Fastpitchwest
Saturday, March 26th, 2005Fastpitch and….Boat Races!
Thursday, March 24th, 2005Boatnik Tournament director Troy Terry offers one of the more unique settings for a fastpitch tournament, over the Memorial Day Weekend: Fastpitch and….boat races….and jet boat excursions. All at the river’s edge in scenic Grants Pass, Oregon, about an hour north of the California border. For those that don’t remember, it was a fixture in the late 1980’s. Magna Plating, one of the top “A” teams from So Cal was a regular for several years running. The Rounders’ Mitch Mendenhall was the Most Valuable Pitcher one year, in the days of his youth.
No small operation, the tournament has blocked 60 rooms for fastpitch players on a busy holiday weekend. If you’re thinking about heading north for this one, be sure to plan ahead. For more info, click here.

Fastpitchwest’s Coverage Featured in April 2005 Issue of Softball Magazine
Thursday, March 24th, 2005We are pleased to find our coverage of the 2005 AAU International tournament in this month’s issue of Softball Magazine that just hit the streets. The magazine selected one of Maddy’s photos from the AAU tournament for the “inside fastpitch cover”, and published our feature story on the tournament, and a half dozen or so photos taken by Maddy. The issue marks the fifth time that Maddy’s photography has made the magazine and appeared on the inside fastpitch cover, including the last two AAU’s, Red Rock, Rose Cup and ISC II tournaments. Needless to say, we am proud of her work, and pleased to have it play such a big part at our website.
Softball Magazine is known as the “Sports Illustrated of Softball”, with pages and pages of photos. If you are not familiar with the magazine, you might want to visit their website and look around. Since 2004, the magazine is devoting more of their coverage to men’s fastpitch. You can request a complimentary issue, or subscribe online. Or if all else fails, drop me a line and I’ll arrange to have one sent to you. The cost of the annual subscription is nominal, and I have to confess, that in this day and age of internet coverage of the sport, it’s still fun to find fastpitch coverage in printed form.
Las Vegas Spring Swing Update
Thursday, March 24th, 2005Looks the the field of teams for David Bell’s Las Vegas Swing Swing Tournament April 2-3, 2005 is shaping up nicely. David expects more than 15 teams amongst the two divisions (“A/B” and “C”). The Hilo Athletics are coming over to the mainland for this one, reportedly with Colin McKenzie on the hill. C-Mac pitched with them at last year’s Red Rock tournament, helping pitch them into the championship round. Also competing in the upper division are the Castlewood Jesters, a Final Four team at Red Rock last year, as well as the new-look So Cal Bombers. For more click here. This will be the sixth consecutive — and final Spring Swing tournament, as David steps back to spend more time with family.
